Accelerated FreeFall Training

aff level 1

Disclaimer:  Skydive Skyranch does not recommend the AFF program for your first solo jump.  Although it is a safe and exciting way for you to start your student training we have introduced and recommend our Hybrid Integrated Student Program which we feel not only gives you more quality jumps for your money but makes you an overall better skydiver at a lower monetary investment.  We advise that you start your training with our student static line program which leans heavily on canopy piloting skills first.  The most important thing about skydiving is how you reacquaint yourself with mother earth.  With our training you will be a competent canopy pilot before we add the rigors of free-fall training.  At any time you may choose the AFF program, however we recommend if you choose AFF, not starting the AFF program until after completing a 10 second freefall.  Of course you can complete your student training using the Static Line progression program.  Talk to your instructors about the cost differences and benefits of both programs.  You may call us at 479 651 6160 to answer your questions.

Overview.

Commonly abbreviated "AFF." AFF is the fastest way to complete your solo jump training. The program consists of 7 levels and can be completed in as few as 7 jumps. We have AFF classes (student and instructors) every Saturday (Sunday by appointment) beginning at 9:00 A.M. You must be 18 years old and under 240 pounds. You must be reasonably fit with moderate upper body strength.

Dress comfortably and for the weather conditions. Jeans or shorts and a shirt that tucks in are preferred. You will be provided with a jumpsuit for your skydive. Tennis shoes are recommended footwear. NO sandals or cowboy boots please.

Training.

This training discipline is where certified instructors accompany the student in freefall holding onto the student's harness at first while the student demonstrates certain skills. It can be compared to learning to ride a bike with training wheels.

aff training

Since the student is wearing his own parachute, they must be trained to handle emergency procedures as well as landing procedures. AFF training usually consists of a several hour ground course, and the first jump can often be accomplished the same day.

How Does It Work?

Student exits the aircraft with two USPA AFF Instructors and freefall together for 30 to 50 seconds, depending on jump altitude, typically 10,000 to 13,000 feet. Instructors maintain a grip on the student's harness to provide in-air instruction and assist with stability if necessary. The student is required to perform freefall objectives and pull. The instructors are right next to you in freefall, and can assist if needed.

aff landing

The student opens his own parachute by 4,000 feet and pilots it to the landing area. You will have a radio in which an instructor talks you through the canopy flight and landing. These Ram-Air parachutes have about a 20 mile per hour forward speed and are very maneuverable and responsive, very easy to fly and land. About half of our first jump students even stand up their first landing. It is about a 5 to 8 minute canopy ride. The best part is you are the pilot!
